Your Social Worker is really interested in what you do at school and wants you to do your best. They will want to talk about school a lot and make sure that things are going well for you. If you do have any problems they will try to sort these out by talking to your teachers, carers or parents.
Every school has a designated teacher who will talk to you and maybe help you to fill out your Personal Education Plan (PEP) before your review.
The Project for Looked After Children’s Education (The PLACE) are around to help you be the best you can at school and help with your educational success. The PLACE can offer you support in and out of school if it’s needed, for you to reach your potential.
A foster carer will make sure you have everything you need to study. They will et people know when you do well and will go to important school events like sports day or parents evening. They will also let your school know if you are going to be absent and will make sure you have a note to take back on your return.
If you live in a children’s home your key worker will support you in your education. They will go to important school events and remind you of important dates for exams and school trips. Your key worker will also let the school know if you are going to be absent and make sure you have a letter when you return.

An EWO’s job is to keep a check on your attendance and make sure that you are attending school when you should be! They will also help if you have any problems in school that is stopping you from learning or attending.
There are a number of Learning Mentors in all of the comprehensive schools in South Tyneside. They can be someone to talk to at school and offer a safe place to go if you ever need to take ‘time out’.
An educational psychologist will try to make sure that all of your educational needs are met. They will also help with any emotional or behavioural issues you may have and suggest ways to cope to you and to others who work with you.
The Youth Offending team work with young offenders to try to put them back on the right track. The workers here will try to help young people make the most of their education and to keep them in their educational placement.

This team will provide help and support for you as you are leaving the ‘looked after’ system. They will complete a Pathway plan with you and ensure all of your educational needs are catered for.
ConneXions have Personal Advisors who work with all young people aged 13-19 years old. They will help you make the most out of all aspects of your life, in particular training, employment and educational opportunities.
