The Duty team is split into two separate teams - the day service operates during the day and the emergency duty team operates after 5pm and on weekends.

Children's Day Duty Service
The Duty Social Work Team can help anyone who has a query about getting help from Children's Social Services.

All requests for any services are made through the Duty Team. The Team is made up of a Team Manager, two Social Workers and two Social Work Assistants. Their special area of knowledge is working with children and Families.

The duty social worker will make an initial assessment of your difficulty based on the information you give. This could include requests for child care services or requests for services as a result of a disability.

When it is necessary the duty worker will refer you to another service within the department.
Simple enquiries can also be dealt with by letter or a telephone call.

You can call in at the Children's Social Services Referral and Assessment Service or you can phone and ask to speak to the Duty Social Work Team.

The reception desk is open: Mon-Thurs 8:30am-5pm and Fri 8:30am-4:30pm Tel: 0191 4564473

Emergency Duty Team
There is an emergency phone number that you can ring when offices are closed at night and at weekends this is: 01914562093.   The service covers both Children and Adults. The team is managed by the same Manager as the Day Duty Team and has a permanent staff of six very experienced Social Workers who operate a shift system on a rota.

In terms of supporting children and their families whenever we can, we help families to stay together by providing support in times of difficulty. This could include:
•  supporting children and young people in their families
•  supporting young people who are looked after by

    social services
•  investigating concerns about child abuse
•  accommodating children at risk of significant harm
